Recap from the CrossFit Glendale Throwdown Hey guys, I wanted to offer a recap and some input into the event this past weekend. Anytime you get a community of awesome people together, awesome things are bound to happen, and it demands we take a moment to appreciate the awesomeness. First of all, I want to extend a HUGE congratulations to all of the competitors who got after it this weekend. Also, a big thank you to all of the family and friends that came to offer their support for all those competing. That being said, there are a few points I want to hit on directly. 1. Some of the highlights. The day was full of memorable moments, but here is a recap of some of the best. -Watching Jose Colon, Karen Velez and Michal Kasza not only crush all the workouts but to do it with in only 2 months of Crossfit experience was special. They didn’t know what they were getting into but they competed and performed exceptionally well. -Watching Dan Michitsch knock out 300# 2rep Front Squat to secure first place in the event….that was impressive. Watching Wendy Schmidt scream, Fareed Mohammed yell to get the last rep and, Karen Velez hold the bottom squat for 5sec and not letting go of the bar to complete the rep was Epic! Adele Graham losing her grip on the bar but fights to finish her second rep was AMAZING!!! -Watching all of our athletes show off some SOLID technique during the Ground to Overhead. And Max Jr (11 yrs old) performing and competing with the big boys. -When Jim Toelstedt, Gino Vaccaro, Michael Aliseo, Rafael Sanchez and Dan Michitsch went rep for rep in WOD#1 and WOD#2 was AWESOME! These athletes showed so much sportsmanship!!! -Watching all the finalist show no fear of the final WOD. You didn’t know what to expect but you accepted the task and finished it. CrossFit trains people to be prepared for the unknown and unknowable….and that you were. How many of you liked the Assault Bike? 🙂 -Finally, Jim Toelstedt, Michael Aliseo and Dan Michitsch stealing the show during the final event going rep for rep till Michael takes the lead in final 3 reps of Toes2Bar to pull away on the Assault bike and maintain the lead by his all out effort. The Box was rocking with excitement…these athletes put on a great performance and show!!! 2. You all are fantastic. -Seriously, I can not explain to you how much I enjoyed watching you all compete. Day-to-day training in the box can get frustrating, I know, but you all are doing something right. From watching our athletes move and compete on Saturday, I can tell that our members understand not just how to execute a movement, but how to execute a movement correctly and efficiently. CrossFit is designed to be hard. Like really hard. But you all showed me that you understand where the tipping point is. I think it was clear that our athletes understand the necessity to rest / recover during a workout when you know that things are getting sloppy. Thank you. 3. Our people know how to warm-up. -Being the only Coach available and running the show, I was unable to have the opportunity to help or make sure our athletes were getting warmed-up and mobilized at an appropriate time. However, as it turns out, I didn’t need to make any announcements. Almost every time I would turn around to find someone and tell them to start getting lose, I could find them already half way through a warm-up routine. As a coach, this made my day. 4. We have an awesome community. -CrossFit Glendale was very well-represented. In total we had 50 athletes participate and just as many athletes showed up to show support for those competing. The friendships and bonds that are built in our box clearly extend well beyond the hour long class that you all attend together. I’m excited about what is to come from our athletes and our community and, I think like most of you, I am already looking forward to the next event. -Oren WOD A.
